Three ASM organisations received Fairmined "Eco-Gold" certification
The Shijir Khishig ASM partnership has signed the certified “Fairmined Eco-Gold” export contract with the Bank of Mongolia and German “Fairever” company. The Shijir khishig ASM partnership is a Fairmined certified ASM organisation since December 2018 and recertified in December 2019 by the external Fairmined auditing organisation. The Duush Mandal Khairkhan Kholboo ASM NGO also has successfully complied with the Fairmined standard requirements and received their first-year certification on 30 December 2019 with support of the Sustainable Artisanal Mining Project, a jointly implemented project of the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
First Fairmined certification received XAMODX ASM NGO from Bayankhongor province for “Fairmined Eco-Gold” in January 2015. The “Fairmined Eco-Gold” is a global assurance label that certifies gold from empowered Responsible Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining organisations who meet world leading standards for responsible practices. Currently, “Fairmined Eco-Gold” certificate is granted to only few ASM organizations in the world, having satisfactorily fulfilled more than 200 standards indicating the organization operates in an economically, technologically and environmentally responsible manner. Fairmined Gold jewelry and other products are offered in 18 countries in North and South America, Europe, Asia and Australia as well as online. Brands interested in sourcing Fairmined Gold for their products can find suppliers in the US, Canada, Great Britain, France, Switzerland,
Germany, Austria, Spain and Colombia. The export marks a historical moment for Mongolian ASM to supply responsible gold to more tan 100 leading jewellery brands.
Starting from 2020 the Bank of Mongolia will start selling purified Mongolian gold for the use of goldsmiths. This activity will enable the complete circle of the Mongolian gold supply chain. As currently the Mongolian goldsmiths use metals illegally imported from China, Korea and other countries.
