The ASM Knowledge Hub Platform Launched

In Phase 4 of the Sustainable Artisanal Mining (SAM) project, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in Mongolia (SDC), initiated and funded the development of ASM Knowledge Hub, a web-based platform with the goal to convene and enable ASM stakeholders to create and share knowledge, experiences and solutions. The ASM Mongolian Knowledge Hub is a web-based interactive platform, which will provide active exchange and distribution of ASM information and connect ASM actors and knowledge contributors in Mongolia as well as with global ASM stakeholders.

Following the development in 2017 in partnership with Datacom, a leading Mongolian IT company, the Mongolian ASM Knowledge Hub web-platform was launched on March 1, 2018.

The launch and hand-over ceremony was attended by representatives of the government and non-government organizations including the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry, the Mineral Resources and Petroleum Authority, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the ASM National Federation, international organizations and artisanal and small-scale miners.

In his opening remarks, Mr. G.Nandinjargal, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry said: "The Government of Mongolia has taken a number of actions to formalize and regulate the ASM sector and in 2017, new ASM regulation was approved. These legal acts and other ASM data can be accessed from the ASM Knowledge Hub Platform. The further success of the ASM Knowledge Hub Platform development will depend on contributions from all organizations, researchers and individuals related to the artisanal and small-scale mining.”

"The Knowledge Hub Platform can make the Mongolian experience visible abroad and bring to Mongolia lessons learned and examples from abroad. As the SAM Project is ending in 2019, the Knowledge Hub must find a permanent home. We are glad that the MMHI accepted the challenge and the responsibility for its further existence, with the support and contribution of all of you, all the stakeholders of this project." said Mrs. Ilaria Dali, Deputy Director of SDC in Mongolia.

The basis of the Knowledge Hub is mutual exchange, leverage, facilitation and coordination. It is leveraging existing networks, expertise and the assets of national knowledge initiatives therefore there is a strong opportunity to bring additional resources to the ASM sector.
