SDC Sustainable Artisanal Mining Project Steering Committee Meeting was Successfull

The Steering Committee Meeting of Sustainable Artisanal Mining Project, jointly implementing by the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), was held on 14 February 2018 at the conference hall of the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry. The Chairman of the Steering Committee and Head of Policy Implementation and Coordination Department of Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry Mr.B.Elbegzaya introduced the agenda.

"2017 was a year of success, and we hope to continue these achievements in 2018. 2018 is the project closing year, but a decision has been made to extend the project one more year.This will enable a better handover to be passed on to our partners in 2019. In addition to the completion of the project, we have completed the Exit Strategy with your support.

The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) has been working on artisanal mining sector more than 10 years, and considers that it has made significant progress in the ASM sector and is ready to work for its partners. “Let's work together to reinforce our previous achievements” said Mrs. Ilaria Dali, Deputy Director of SDC in Mongolia.

B.Altanbagana, project coordinator introduced the project results for 2017, work plan and budget for 2018. The Project Steering Committee Members: G.Nyamdavaa, Head of Environment and Natural Resources Department of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, P.Erdenetuya, Head of Treasure Fund of Bank of Mongolia, Ch.Altangerel, Head of Working Group of NHRC, D.Khangai, Director of Mining Industry and Technology Department of MRPAM, S.Battulga, Senior Specialist of MRPAM, S.Batmunkh-Erdene, Head of Department of Geology and Mining Control of State Inspection Agency, B. Narantsogt, Chairman of ASM National Federation, Ilaria Dali, Deputy Director SDC, N.Erdenesaikhan, Program Officer of SDC, and project experts attended. The Sustainable Artisanal Mining Project has approved theYear of Plan 2018 by 100% votes of members. Thank you to all the organizations who work for responsible artisanal mining!

Since 2005, the Sustainable Artisanal Mining Project has been contributing to the organisation and formalisation of Mongolian ASM sector, advocating for environmentally sound mining practices and raising awareness amongst stakeholders on responsible ASM. In its 4th Phase, SAM aims to develop an economically sustainable, environmentally responsible and human rights-based ASM sector in Mongolia benefiting from and contributing to, global best practice regarding ASM.
